Child Safety

There always comes a time when we decide our homes need a facelift. Sometimes it is a simple coat of paint and sometimes it is a total renovation. One thing you must remember is that if you have small children, even the simplest of home improvement jobs can become a danger. Generally children and home improvement are best kept separate. There are equipment and chemical hazards present that can seriously injure or even kill a small child. If your children must be present then there are a few safety rules that you can apply to help minimize the danger.

First, when it comes to chemicals keep them far out of reach for small children. Ideally you should have them locked away so there is no way they can get to them. Children are clever and can get in and out of some of the most dangerous places. With chemical, do not change containers if possible. If your child should ingest something, having the original container will help the hospital personal or poison control center quickly identify the best route for treatment. When it comes to poisoning, the quicker the better.

Second, when it comes to equipment, make sure that it is put away properly if your children are around. Never leave equipment unattended if it is still plugged in or easily operational. Never leave things lying out in plain view. Children can be curious and much of the equipment used can cause serious injury or even death. Store it away, switch it off and employ and safety devices you equipment might have if you have small children around.

It is possible to have a home renovation project when you have small children. You will however, have to pay close attention to what they are doing and possibly block of areas to them. However, if you follow some simple ruled of safety and use some common sense, your renovation project should go ahead without serious incident.
