How To Repair A Coffee Grinder

A coffee grinder is a small electrical appliance that uses a spinning blade to grind whole coffee beans into fine particles. There is a small universal motor which is used to spin the shaft that is in the center of the coffee grinder. When the motor spins the shaft, the rotating blade grinds the coffee beans. You can vary the size of the particles (called grounds) by the amount of time you run the grinder. The blade sharpness also determines the size of the grounds.

You have to disassemble and check the components of a coffee grinder to repair it. A good cleaning will help as well.

To disassemble a coffee grinder, you must:

1. Make sure the coffee grinder is unplugged. Remove the base plate by removing the screws underneath the grinder. Grip the blade with a towel and use a screwdriver or small pliers to turn the other end of the motor shaft counterclockwise. Then remove the blade.
2. Remove the motor which is secured by screws, a linking arm, or a clip. Test the motor if necessary.
